Asian College of Journalism (ACJ)
Chennai, India

It was at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) in 2002, that the SAF first developed an innovative programme in which scholarships are given annually to a young woman and a young man, selected from each of the South Asian countries, to study jointly in a number of institutions in South Asia.

Students admitted to ACJ study in one of the two media streams – print or broadcast – both of which have a strong online component.

The course equips young people not only with the necessary professional skills but also the broad knowledge, integrity and social commitment to make them outstanding journalists. The scholarship provides for the tuition, travel and living expenses.

The first two Afghan Students started in 2003.

Selection and Application procedure

Candidates should have cleared an undergraduate course in any  discipline. Equivalent courses in different SAARC countries would also be considered on a case by case basis.

They must be proficient in English since all instruction and assignments at the ACJ are in English. Advertisements for admission to the ACJ each year are published in leading national dailies and on the SAF and ACJ websites in early March.
The final decision is taken by the SAF Afghanistan Chairperson.
