UNESCO and SAF establish Official Relations
2007 International Forum of Civil Societies meeting at the 34th session of the UNESCO General Conference Ambassador Madanjeet Singh and Mme. France Marquet attended the meeting of the programme commission (i-V), during the 34th session of the UNESCO General Conference on October 25, 2007. The objective of SAFs participation in the meeting was to formalize UNESCOs Assistance to the eight SAF institutions of excellence. Read more >
2006 In accordance with the "Directives concerning UNESCO's relations with foundations and similar institutions" adopted by the General Conference at its 26th session in November 1991 and amended at its 28th and 29th sessions, UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura, has decided to admit the South Asia Foundation into official relations with UNESCO. The Executive Board of UNESCO took note of the Director-General's decision at its 175th session (October 2006). The obligations and benefits pertaining to this relationship are set out in Articles III and IV respectively of the UNESCO Directives. Read more >

2002 SAF and UNESCO have close ties. In September 2002, the Director General deputed Prof. Abdulwaheed Khan, Assistant Director General for Information, to attend the South Asia Foundation conference on distance learning in Beaulieu-sur-Mer, France. Read more >

2006 Decision taken at the SAF governing council in accordance with UNESCO. The Prize will be fund in perpetuity by South Asia Foundation.
2002 Prize funded by Madanjeet Singh is amended and upgraded to $ 100,000.

She was awarded the 2004 UNESCO-Madanjeet Singh Prize for the Promotion of Tolerance and Non-violence by UNESCO Director-General Koïchiro Matsuura, on behalf of an international jury presided over by Andrés Pastrana Arango, former President of Colombia. Her acceptance speech received a long and standing ovation at a well attended event in Paris on 16th November 2004. |
