BRAC has given a piece of land as a gift to the South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (SAILS) for construction of its academic building and ancillary facilities at Khagan, Savar in the District of Dhaka.

Founder Chairperson of BRAC, Sir Fazle Hasan Abed handed over the related documents to the Governing Council of SAILS recently, a press release said.

On behalf of the Governing Council, its members Professor Jamilur Reza Choudhury, Dr. Shamsul Bari and Barrister Manzoor Hasan received the documents. SAILS’ Honorary Director Dr. Sharif Bhuiyan and Deputy Director Dr. Uttam Kumar Das were also present on the occasion.

The Governing Council of SAILS has thanked BRAC and its Chairperson Sir Fazle Hasan Abed for the donation.

SAILS will name the building as “UNESCO Madanjeet South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAI)” in acknowledgement of the contribution of the South Asia Foundation (SAF) and its Founder Chairperson, Ambassador Madanjeet Singh in establishing SAILS.

SAILS, an affiliate of BRAC University, is scheduled to start two academic programmes: Master of Laws (LL.M.) in South Asian Laws and Master of Arts in Human Rights and Development in September 2013.
