Two Bangladeshi young journalists have been awarded the SAF-Madanjeet Singh scholarship for the one-year postgraduate course on New Media Stream at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ) in Chennai, India.

Two budding journalists, one male another female, from each country- Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka are joining the programme. Two Bangladeshi journalists are AK Mohammed Moinuddin, Staff Correspondent of country's leading news agency UNB and Shahnaj Pervin, Staff Reporter of The Daily Janakantha.

The scholarship covers tuition fees, economy air travel from the scholar's place of residence within SAARC to Chennai and back, accommodation costs, on a room sharing basis, for the duration of the course in Chennai from July 2009 to May 10, 2010, food expenses covering breakfast, lunch and dinner at the ACJ canteen. Chairman of South Asia Foundation (SAF), Bangladesh Chapter, Dr Kamal Hossain, members Prof Jamilur Reza Chowdhury, Dr Md Yunus, Prof Rehman Sobhan, Khushi Kabir, Farooq Sobhan, Mahfuz Anam and Secretary to the advisory body Obaidullah Al-Zakir greeted the two Bangladeshi candidates.
The SAF, a voluntary, secular, non-profit and non-political youth movement, seeks to promote greater solidarity, understanding, cooperation, peace and progress through education and sustainable development among the peoples of South Asia. The aims, objectives and activities of SAF are fully in conformity with spirit purpose and principles of the SAARC Charter.
