Mr. Aminul Islam (SAF Scholar from Bangladesh)

New Media

I am greatly thankful to South Asia Foundation (SAF), Bangladesh Chapter, which provided me a handsome scholarship to pursue a Post Graduate Diploma in Journalism (New Media) at the Asian College of Journalism (ACJ), Chennai, India.

The scholarship has given me an outstanding opportunity to be immersed in a diverse and vibrant culture and academic environment. I strongly believe that the experiences will help me in shaping my world-view, life-philosophy and future career.

I must thank my teachers, mentors, friends, fellows and other officials at the ACJ. Interactions with my teachers and mentors have opened a new horizon in me to understand the subject from a broader regional and global perspective. The interactions with my friends and fellows, who are from diverse social-cultural-geographical backgrounds, have helped me to understand the issues of “identity” and the “sense of identity”, both national, religious and cultural, from a new perspective, about which I was not aware before coming here.

My grateful thanks are also extended to Mr Sashi Kumar, chairman of Media Development Foundation and Asian College of Journalism. Discussion with him, on several occasions, has opened up new horizon in me to understand the dynamics of media and journalism in South Asia.

Certainly, the interactions, experiences, understandings will guide my future works in upholding the ethos and visions of SAF in promoting people to people connection, mutual trust and respect, fight poverty and terrorism and achieving the ultimate human goals.
