UNESCO Madanjeet Singh School of Green Energy and Technology (UMSGET), Pondicherry University, Puducherry, India  and UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management (UMCSAWM), Department of  Civil Engineering, University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka are set to co-host the First International Conference on Energy and Water for Sustainable Environment (ICEWSE 2025) on 30 September and 01 October 2025. This landmark event aims to unite global experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to explore and advance innovative solutions in sustainable energy and water management.

The two-day international conference focuses on energy and water for a sustainable environment. It is jointly organised by Pondicherry University, India, and the University of Moratuwa, Sri Lanka, under the guidance of their respective UNESCO Chairs. The conference aims to promote energy and water sustainability by bringing together global experts, policymakers, and industry leaders to discuss innovative solutions. The event will feature research presentations from experts in renewable energy and water resources, providing a platform for young scientists and scholars to share their work.

About UMCSAWM and the Department of Civil Engineering, UoM

The Department of Civil Engineering at UoM stands as one of the oldest and most prestigious departments within the Faculty of Engineering. It is a center of excellence in structural, geotechnical, construction, transportation, environmental, and water resources engineering, with a strong research orientation and active engagement in both national and international projects to promote sustainable civil and environmental engineering solutions.
UMCSAWM, established with the support of the South Asia Foundation (SAF) and UNESCO, is dedicated to advancing water resources management, climate resilience, and sustainability in the region. The Centre’s master’s program trains experts, conducts research on water issues, and develops effective water policies, fostering cross-border knowledge exchange and innovation.

About UNESCO Madanjeet School of Green Energy Technology (UMSGET)

The UNESCO Madanjeet School of Green Energy Technology (UMSGET) advances education and research in sustainable energy to address global energy challenges UNESCO Chair on “Renewable and Clean Energy for Sustainable Development” was established 2024 2028 within UMSGET at Pondicherry University to promote green energy technologies In collaboration with UNESCO, MSF,and SAF India, the Chair provides training and knowledge to promote renewable energy in South Asia and worldwide The Chair collaborates with governments, schools, industries, and researchers to develop renewable energy technologies for sustainable development.

A central university, is a popular destination for higher education and research, attracting students nationwide. The university comprises 15 schools, 38 departments, 11 centers, and 1 chair, offering over 144 programs Pondicherry University is actively involved in over 130 funded research projects from agencies like UGC, DST, CSIR, and DBT Its 880 acre campus provides a 100 Wi Fi environment, full power backup, a 24x7 library, well equipped hostels, medical facilities, a placement cell, a community radio station, Study India Program.

In 2010 Pondicherry University established the Centre for Green Energy Technology under UMSGET to cultivate expertise in renewable and clean energy The centre was designated as a Centre of
Excellence and funded by MNRE, India and South Asia Foundation ( Indian chapter). By 2020 it evolved into a UGC notified department Currently, DGET offers B Tech ..(Energy Science and Technology), M Tech ..(Green Energy Technology), Ph D programs in renewable energy and consistently advancing energy technologies in both research and product development
