 "UAP Hosts Inaugural Orientation for UMSAILS LLM Program with Distinguished Guests and Global Representation"

UAP holds freshers’ orientation for the UMSAILS LLM Program
   
The freshers’ orientation program of the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh South Asian Institute of Advanced Legal and Human Rights Studies (UMSAILS) LLM program was held at the University of Asia Pacific (UAP) on February 10, 2024.
Twenty-six students from sixteen different public and private universities are enrolled in the UMSAILS Program with full and partial scholarships provided by South Asia Foundation (SAF). International students from Nepal, India and Afghanistan are also enrolled in this prestigious LLM Program.
 Dr. Kamal Hossain, Senior Advocate, Supreme Court of Bangladesh and Chairperson of SAILS, delivered his speech as the chief guest. He highlighted the need for legal and human rights education from a South Asian perspective and recognized that the Department of Law and Human Rights at UAP as the center of excellence capable of providing quality legal and human rights education.
Architect Mambuba Haque, Chairperson, Board of Trustees (BOT), UAP; Professor Dr. Qumrul Ahsan, Vice Chancellor, UAP; Professor Dr. Sultan Mahmud, Pro Vice Chancellor, UAP and Prof. Dr. M. A. Baqui Khalily Acting Dean, School of Law, University of Asia Pacific addressed the function as special guests.
The program was moderated by Dr. Chowdhury Ishrak Ahmed Siddiky, Associate Professor and Program Coordinator, UMSAILS LLM Program, while a vote of thanks was given by Mr. Md. Abdur Rahim, Asst. Professor and Head, Department of Law & Human Rights, UAP.
Among others- Dr. M. Alauddin, Member, BOT, UAP; Mr. Qayum Reza Chowdhury, Member, BOT, UAP; Mr. Alamjeb Farzad Ahmed, Member BOT, UAP; Engineer M. Abu Taher; Prof. Dr. Sheikh Anwar Hossain, Treasurer, UAP; Professor Dr. Muhammad Mizanur Rahaman, Dean, School of Engineering ; Barrister Sarah Hossain, Director, SAF; Mohammad Zakaria, Secretary, SAF and faculty members also attended the program.
It may me mentioned here that UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador Madanjeet Singh founded SAF in 2000 as a secular, non-profit, and non-political organization comprising eight autonomous chapters: Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan, and Sri Lanka. SAF’s core objective is to promote regional cooperation through a number of UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Institutions of Excellence in the eight SAARC countries.
