Mr. T. Vinoja, A Moving Cloak in Terrain, Experimenter – Colaba, Mumbai, 2025
Sri Lankan artist Mr. T. Vinoja (batch 1991, Kilinochchi) presents a powerful body of work exploring how stories of belonging intersect with mass violence and displacement. Rooted in material studies and dialogical approaches, her practice reflects on the civil war’s unresolved aftermath—ethnic and linguistic divides, state brutality, generational loss, and environmental devastation.
Through her art, Vinoja transforms fragments of memory into “impermissible evidence”—a sensorial archive that resists neat categorization, unlike conventional forensic or journalistic records. Her works embody cyclical forms of remembrance, confronting disappearances with acts of creative recovery, and situating human experience within vibrant yet wounded ecologies.
These reflections are captured in an exhibition essay by Natasha Ginwala, Artistic Director of Colomboscope and co-curator of Sharjah Biennial 16.
