The International Conference on Energy and Water for Sustainable Environment (ICEWSE 2025) was inaugurated at Pondicherry University, marking a major collaboration between the University’s Department of Green Energy Technology (UMSGET), the University of Moratuwa’s Centre for South Asia Water Management (UMCSAWM), and the South Asia Foundation under UNESCO.
Prof. R. Arun Prasath, Convenor of ICEWSE 2025, emphasized global cooperation, sustainable energy–water synergies, and India’s roadmap for achieving net-zero carbon emissions by 2035. Video messages from Dr. Benno Böer (UNESCO) and H.E. Mahishini Colonne (Sri Lanka) conveyed international support.
Vice Chancellor Prof. P. Prakash Babu released the ICEWSE 2025 Abstract Booklet and highlighted the university’s dedication to the UN Sustainable Development Goals. Madam France Marquet (MSF) and Prof. Lalith Rajapakse (University of Moratuwa) stressed the importance of regional collaboration, research partnerships, and youth participation in sustainability initiatives.
The inaugural session concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. D. S. Sharada, reaffirming that ICEWSE 2025 aims to foster innovation, dialogue, and collective responsibility for a sustainable global future.
