South Asia Foundation (SAF) was honoured to be represented at this significant global observance, which celebrates linguistic diversity, multilingual education, and the preservation of cultural heritage. The occasion, observed annually on 21 February, holds special historical importance in Bangladesh, commemorating the Language Movement that shaped the nation’s identity. 

H.E. Khondker M. Talha, Ambassador and Permanent Delegate of Bangladesh to UNESCO, has extended a formal invitation to diplomats, cultural representatives, and distinguished guests to attend the celebration of International Mother Language Day – 2026 at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris.

The commemorative event took place on Friday, 20 February 2026, at 5:00 p.m. in Room I, UNESCO Headquarters, followed by a special cultural programme highlighting linguistic diversity and cultural heritage. The celebration reaffirms Bangladesh’s historic role and continued commitment to the promotion of mother tongues, multilingualism, and cultural diversity—values that remain central to UNESCO’s global mission.

Madame Marquet’s presence reaffirmed SAF’s continued commitment to UNESCO’s ideals of intercultural dialogue, education, and the promotion of peace through respect for linguistic and cultural diversity.

The event is expected to bring together members of the international community in a shared tribute to linguistic rights, intercultural dialogue, and the enduring importance of languages in fostering inclusive and sustainable societies worldwide.
