UMISAA proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of its alumna Zahra Jokhio, whose work is being showcased in the prestigious international exhibition Absent Dialogue with the Stratosphere, held as part of the International Women’s Day Contemporary Art programme in London.
Presented by WOMB x Oaklands Social x BowArts, the exhibition brings together powerful women artists from across the world, exploring themes of silence, memory, labour, displacement, and unheard voices. Zahra Jokhio’s contribution stands out for its profound use of textiles and hand-stitching as a quiet yet compelling language of resistance and remembrance. Through fabric, thread, and layered surfaces, her work transforms personal and collective histories into a deeply moving visual narrative.
Curated by Imrana Tanveer, the exhibition positions the “stratosphere” as a symbolic listening space—where voices that have long been marginalised continue to resonate. Within this conceptual framework, Zahra Jokhio’s work speaks eloquently of women’s labour, migration, and resilience, reaffirming art as a powerful medium of dialogue even in silence.
The exhibition is on view from 8 March to 8 April 2026 at Oaklands House, drawing art lovers, critics, and cultural practitioners from across the UK and beyond.
UMISAA takes immense pride in Zahra Jokhio’s international recognition. Her journey from UMISAA classrooms to a global art platform is an inspiring testament to creative excellence, perseverance, and the institution’s enduring commitment to nurturing voices that matter. Her success truly makes UMISAA proud and reaffirms the global impact of its alumni.
