Madame France Marquet, SAF Representative to UNESCO, has been cordially invited by the Chairman of the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh Centre for South Asia Water Management (UMCSAWM) at the University of Moratuwa to attend the CAFIED Conference 2026 titled “Sri Lanka Conference on Gridded Rainfall Data and Extreme Event Analysis: Linking Climate Grids to Extreme Impacts.”

The conference, scheduled for 19 March 2026 at the SLIDA Sanhinda Auditorium in Sri Lanka, will bring together researchers and experts to discuss emerging challenges in climate variability, hydrological data, and extreme weather events affecting the region.

The conference will feature manuscript presentations based on a detailed forensic analysis of the recent Cyclone Ditwah-induced flooding, highlighting lessons learned and future strategies for managing extreme hydrological events.

A key highlight of the programme will also be the launch of the book “Hydrology for Small Catchments and Village Tank Cascades in Sri Lanka,” co-authored by Prabath Witharana and Lalith Rajapakse. The publication addresses critical aspects of climate resilience and sustainable water resources management in small catchments and traditional tank cascade systems.

The participation of France Marquet reflects the continued engagement of the SAF and UMCSAWM network in advancing regional dialogue and international cooperation on climate resilience and sustainable water management.
