Global Leaders Convene at UNESCO for World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day 2026

Madam France Marquet, Principal Trustee of MSF and SAF Representative to UNESCO, participates in the observance of World Day for Glaciers and World Water Day 2026 held at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris on 18–19 March 2026.
The significant global gathering marks the conclusion of the International Year of Glaciers’ Preservation 2025 and formally launches the Decade of Action for Cryospheric Sciences (2025–2034). During the session, Prof. Khaled El-Enany, Director-General of UNESCO, also addresses the gathering, highlighting the urgent need for strengthened global cooperation in preserving glaciers and ensuring sustainable water resources.
With the cryosphere storing nearly 70% of the Earth’s freshwater and facing accelerated depletion, the sessions highlight urgent global priorities, including sustainable water management and the integration of gender equality in water governance. The occasion also witnesses the official release of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2026, emphasizing equal rights, inclusion, and shared responsibility in water resource management.
Madam Marquet attends the high-level sessions and engages with distinguished delegates and stakeholders, reaffirming her association’s continued commitment to advancing international dialogue and cooperation on environmental sustainability, water equity, and climate action.
