The UNESCO headquarters hosted a distinguished international gathering to mark the International Day for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), highlighting global commitment toward sustainable development and climate resilience.
Madame France Marquet, Principal Trustee of Madanjeet Singh Foundation, attended the occasion, reaffirming the Foundation’s continued engagement with international initiatives advancing sustainability, resilience, and inclusive development.
The event, jointly organized by the Delegation of Armenia and the European Union, brought together global leaders, policymakers, and dignitaries. Opening remarks were delivered by senior officials including the President of the UNESCO General Conference and the Director-General of UNESCO.
A keynote address by a high representative of the United Nations emphasized the urgent need to support SIDS in tackling environmental and economic challenges. The program also featured video messages from Prime Ministers of island nations and a cultural showcase celebrating the rich heritage and vibrant identity of Small Island Developing States.
The event concluded with a reception, reinforcing international cooperation and solidarity toward building a more sustainable, resilient, and inclusive future for small island nations.
