Presented during Singapore Art Week 2026, the inaugural Print Show & Symposium Singapore featured a powerful keynote conversation with Prof. Salima HashmiDirector, UMISAA; Chairperson, SAF-Pakistan; and MSF Trustee—titled “The worse things are, the better the art becomes.” Moderated by Rirkrit Tiravanija, renowned Thai artist and Professor at Columbia University School of the Arts, the dialogue was deeply reflective and moving.

Prof. Hashmi articulated the artist’s vital role in an increasingly troubled world—as witness, catalyst, and visionary. She emphasized how art can offer hope, solace, and pathways to process fear, grief, and chaos. Rather than yielding to despair, artists, she noted, can expand collective conscience and consciousness, nurturing resilience and critical reflection. Her insights reaffirmed creativity as a sustaining force—preserving beauty, meaning, and human connection when fear threatens to prevail.
