Prof. R. Arun Prasath, UNESCO Chairholder on Renewable and Clean Energy for Sustainable Development (RCESD) at the UNESCO Madanjeet Singh School of Green Energy and Technologies (UMSGET), Pondicherry University, represented India at the prestigious COLLOQUE INTERNATIONAL IATNPRI–Comtecdev 2026 hosted by the University of Bordeaux Montaigne, France.
Speaking at Panel 12 on “Frugal Innovation and Technodiversity,” Prof. Arun Prasath delivered a presentation titled “Frugal AI for Global Industrial Decarbonization through Green and Clean Energy: Advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.”
His presentation highlighted the growing environmental challenges posed by energy- and water-intensive Artificial Intelligence systems and data centres. Advocating for Frugal AI, he emphasized the need for lightweight AI models, edge computing, renewable energy integration, and sustainable cooling systems to reduce carbon emissions while ensuring inclusive technological development.
The presentation underscored the critical role of clean energy technologies in achieving the UN Sustainable Development Goals and advancing global net-zero targets. Prof. Arun Prasath also called for stronger collaboration between the Global North and Global South to promote responsible, ethical, and sustainable AI development guided by the vision of “One Earth, One Family, One Future.”
The participation further strengthened the international visibility of UNESCO Chair RCESD and Pondicherry University as emerging leaders in sustainable technology, climate action, and responsible innovation.
