An orientation cum training was initiated here in Kathmandu on maternal and newborn health to update knowledge of ANM trainers from the Jiri Technical Institute on essential maternal and neo-natal health care and complications management. With the support from the SAF-Nepal, the trainees will receive orientation on national safe motherhood and neo-natal strategies and role of skilled birth attendant (SBA), identify current practices related to maternal including family planning and neo-natal health care, discuss life threatening conditions during pregnancy, labour and post-natal period including neo-natal and their management. They will be also be given simulation exercises on assessment on fetal well being, filling portograph, normal delivery, resuscitation of new born baby, kangaroo mother care, MVA, shoulder dystocia, breech delivery, etc.
Speaking on the occasion, Chairperson of the SAF-Nepal Dr. Rita Thapa outlined the activities of the SAF-Nepal and how SAF Founder Ambassador Madanjeet Singh's contribution in this field has been a hallmark in conducting ANM training for girls coming from dalit and janjati backgrounds from the poorest of communities of rural Nepal.
The training will be held at the Tribhuvan University, Nursing Campus pemises for 5 days.
